HI, all. It’s been a while. My reach on this blog isn’t the greatestest, so I want you to share and repost this widely, please. America needs to know that LOUISIANA IS IN PLAY!

I’m not saying the state has become blue, or even purple. But we have a unique set of conditions here that could significantly advance the progressive Democratic agenda if given proper attention.

Jamie Davis, a farmer from Tensas Parish, has a real shot at being elected to the Senate this November. Our longtime Senator Crazy Eyes, Dr. Bill Cassidy, earned the ire of Fotus and was beaten in the primary by MAGA grifter Julia Letlow, Fotus’s hand-picked challenger. Cassidy’s former seat is wide open. Polls show Jamie Davis is in a statistical tie with Letlow right now. With more money and attention, he could become the first Black Senator from Louisiana!. He is one of the new class of citizen legislators arising across the country in the face of MAGA’s corruption and incompetence.

Our Governor Jeff Landry is a MAGA clown who enjoys cosplaying for Trump in Greenland more than governing our state. He is in some petty turf war with my city of New Orleans, legislating some of our municipal courts out of existence, and threatening to choke off money when New Orleans is an economic driver of this entire state, contributing a quarter of the annual budget.

He and his cronies are selling the state for parts. Vermillion Parish , our vanishing wetlands, to Elon Musk for a “Starbase Louisiana” SpaceX launch port. Richland Parish to Meta for a ginormous data center all set to drain the aquifers and draw more power than the entire city. Government officials involved in the negotiations with SpaceX and Meta signed NDAs about the process, keeping it opaque to public oversight. Government officials swearing to keep secrets from their constituents!

Surely this must be illegal, but Louisiana is giving the country a fine example of how careless, incompetent and greedy both MAGA and the technofascists are. Healthcare cut, education cut, state parks cut, tax breaks to billionaires. Unable and unwilling to address the many issues pressing this unhappy state.

That’s why I say Louisiana is in play. We’re a first-world version of the “Resource Trap” — powers greater than us steal our natural resources with shady deals, tax breaks and carve-outs, and the citizens never see the benefit of it. Louisianians are quite aware that we are the last in the nation for practically every quality of life metric. That we were recently named the worst state to live in. And we’re sick of it.

Jeff Landry is facing an active recall effort, driven by Black voters — started by two private citizens in Baton Rouge. Pig Congressman Clay Higgins is up for re-election and grass-roots Democrats are clamoring to unseat him. Mike Johnson is up for re-election against Democrats Conrad Cable or Matt Gromlich, depending on the upcoming primary. A sustained effort here could unseat the Speaker of the House!

The Democratic National Committee has neglected the South as a block for decades, considering it a lost cause, and concentrating all their money and energy of the various “battleground states.” Well look where that got us.

The party is finally realizing it, with a Southern States Resource Hub dedicated to undoing the years of neglect. If Democrats and progressives move with commitment, we can make changes here that will inspire and energize the whole country. Show American that progressives have our interests at heart and can actually deliver on their promises, like Mayor Mamdani in New York.

I’m not saying it’s a lock. I’m not saying it will be easy. We need a real ground game and social media campaign to GOTV this November. We need money and media and volunteers and attention. We may fail. But we certainly will if we don’t try.

No state can be left behind any more. The Dems, led by the progressive wing, need to return to the South. And Louisiana is the place to start.
