On Victory

What I hoped and believed would happen, happened Tuesday. We the People stood up to defend our democracy against fascism. We looked at their world of chaos, hatred, and division and said, “No. We don’t want this. We won’t do it. You’re gone.”

And we did it without violence and within the rule of law. MAGA pushed us to the absolute brink, but we did it by doing democracy. We organized, we voted, we wrote postcards. We did it in spite of active voter suppression. MAGA closed polling places at HBCUs; the schools summoned their bands and marched to the nearest polls. MAGA purged voter rolls and people downloaded apps to track their voter status. First-time voters surged, turnout surged. People who hadn’t voted in 20 years came out. People in their 80s and 90s. Overseas voters made sure to vote. There’s a worldwide network now called Democrats Abroad and they’re organized.

MAGA and other conservatives were caught flat-footed. They were expecting easy victories and may now lose Mississippi. Party leaders and Fox “News” are going to try and spin this any which way they can, but they cannot change what actually happened.

Understand that. Feel it! Up and down the ballot, in every state, through grassroots organizing, We the People defended democracy and broke the back of Christian nationalism. We the People stood up and said no to fascism. Tuesday was one of the greatest days in American history.
